Clothpad Creating Crafternoon!
A few weeks ago, I was invited to come along to a craft afternoon held by the UQ Women’s Collective. With my camera in hand (to take a few snaps), I found my way to the Women’s Collective room hidden between the buildings.
In a cosy nook; with walls decorated with posters encouraging environmental change & women’s rights, a group of girls were settling down to start the cloth pad sewing session.
Strongly wanting to do something environmental, the girls were here to make a simple behavioural change. This was an opportunity to learn more about Ecopads’ mission & of course, an event to socialise while learning a new skill in sewing.
The craft afternoon was designed as a get-away for most students, especially with the mid-semester exams looming closer. Given a wide range of colourful fabrics to choose from, everyone created their very own personal reusable cloth pad , which they could take home.
It was the first time for most of us, to have a go at sewing the pads from scratch. With Freeda (founder of Ecopads) guiding us along at each step, by the end of the night, we had all somehow sewn together a cute & dainty little work of art. For some, they said that it was a great way to be introduced to cloth pads, as it costed them nothing, they gained a skill, and new friends by the end of the session.
The sustainable fabrics and sewing equipment was already prepared so all we had to do was rock up to the venue and start sewing! Just one of many more sewing workshops to come! Find out about our next exclusive sewing workshop by subscribing to our emailing list.
Also, exciting news ahead for our crafty girls: the DIY kits will be landing in October!
